Musculoskeletal Complaints
"What is brittle is easy to break"

Musculoskeletal complaints like back pain, neck pain, repetitive stress injuries, headaches, knee and shoulder injuries are often what first motivate people to seek my help.  In 2004, such complaints were the number one reason for visits to U.S. medical doctors, comprising approximately 92.1 million cases. (Hing E., Cherrry DK, Woodwell, DA et al.  National Amublatory Medical Care Survey: 2004: summary. Adv Data, 2006:374:1-33)  As anyone who has suffered from a musculoskeletal problem, especially a chronic one, knows, such injuries are incredibly costly in terms of quality of life. I am happy to have a great tool kit for working with musculoskeletal complaints—a tool kit that emphasizes restoring softness and suppleness in the body, one small step at a time.

    Chiropractic adjustments
Skillfully and appropriately administered, chiropractic adjustments are a powerful tool for relieving pain and restoring function, especially after acute injury.  They can also open movement possibilities in areas that have been restricted for a long time.  To learn more about intelligent chiropractic care, click here.

    The Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method is an approach to learning through movement.  It helps you learn to recognize and transform habits that predispose you to injury or limit your potential.  Combining a particular quality of attention with gentle, pleasurable but challenging movements, Feldenkrais helps "make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant."

The Method has a strong reputation for helping people recover from chronic injury and neurological and developmental difficulties, as well as improving performance in musicians, athletes, and actors.  Feldenkrais is also useful for people of any age and any walk of life who want to experience more pleasure, freedom and grace in everyday life.  These benefits can extend well beyond the realm of musculoskeletal complaints; as one client put it, "This is probably the most effective way of addressing the terror I came away from childhood with, the best way of learning that the world can be safe enough to let go of that terror."  To learn more about The Feldenkrais Method, click here.

An Individualized Approach to Strengthening, Sretching and Rehabilitation
As chiropractic care and/or Feldenkrais work open us to new ways of moving and feeling, we may need to stretch and/or strengthen our bodies in order to sustain and build upon these newfound capacities.  I bring my understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology and my yoga practice to bear in creating self-care routines that really work.  I don't just send you home with pictures of exercises copied from a book!  I go through each movement with you, making sure you know what you should be feeling.  We review and revise your exercises often to develop confidence, banish boredom, and foster ongoing growth.
